Any person who goes into the Bronson Jiffy Store to gamble at the back of the store is in for a surprise.
Three of the four machines are unplugged.
Bronson Town Manager Susan Beaudet said last week that she was informed by a phone call that the Florida Gaming Control Commission had ruled the Bronson Jiffy was operating slot machines. The only place in Florida where slot machines are allowed is in tribal casinos, according to Beaudet.
Beaudet said she hadn’t received anything in writing about the gaming commission ruling, but the fact that three of the gambling machines at the back of the Jiffy Store are unplugged is a sign her information is accurate.
Spotlight tried Friday afternoon to get additional details from the gaming commission about the Jiffy Store machines but to no avail. Spotlight couldn’t reach anyone at the agency for comment.
You can still legally gamble on Florida Lottery games at the front counter of the Bronson Jiffy, including Lotto, Mega Millions, Powerball, and scratch-offs, but three of the gambling machines at the back at closed down.
