Spotlight on Levy County Government posed Questions to all five Bronson Town Council candidates in advance of the April 4 municipal election. Three candidates, Julie Stalnaker, Jordan Jabbar, and Mark Kjeseth responded. Candidates Franklin Schuler and Virginia Phillips didn’t respond. The answers provided by the three responding candidates, and the questions they were asked, are listed below.
Jordan Jabbar, Lifelong Bronson Resident, Wants to Improve Services, Attract Businesses, Families
Q: What qualifies you to hold the office of Bronson Town Council member?
A: As a lifelong citizen of Bronson, I believe working as a council member in seat four will allow me to represent the actual interests of our community.
Q: Do you support the creation of the Waccasassa Water and Wastewater Cooperative that would connect Bronson, Otter Creek, and Cedar Key with a centralized water and sewer system?
A: First, a plan needs to be in place to improve our town’s water infrastructure to ensure better quality water for Bronson residents. I would be against the decision to support the cooperative if it negatively impacts our citizens financially.
Q: What is your opinion regarding recent increases in water and wastewater rates?
A: I believe in limiting rates where we can with consideration for quality.
Q: Are taxes too high in Bronson, or at the right level, to provide city services?
A: It’s our duty to residents to hold our representatives accountable and limit taxes. The rates are high and should certainly not increase. The town council should be prudent spenders with taxpayers’ money. If we maintain these rates, we should certainly be able to improve the quality of the city’s services from where they currently stand.
Q: How would you like to improve Bronson for the residents and businesses? What are your goals and aspirations?
A: I would like to try to improve the quality of our services to encourage small businesses and growing families to relocate to our town. I’ve spent my entire life growing up in Bronson. Because of that, I have several ideas that will enrich the quality of living and improve safety for residents and visitors alike. If I win, I look forward to working together with the council and community for the betterment of Bronson. I believe in setting short and long-term improvement goals that I plan to accomplish through hard work and collaborative effort. Let’s make our residents proud to live in Bronson.
