Construction of the County Road 339 replacement bridge has been completed but road work continues.

Work on the replacement of the Levy County Road 339 Bridge near Bronson is finished but road construction associated with the project continues.

Construction of the bridge was completed recently.

Anderson Columbia estimates its crews could complete road construction work before Christmas, weather permitting.

The concrete bridge itself is wider and much sturdier than the bridge it replaces over a narrow portion of the Waccasassa Flats wetlands area.

The $3.9 million project to realign and move the intersection of U.S. 27A and County Road 339 farther west away from a dangerous curve, and replace the aging CR 339 bridge, which was unsafe for heavy truck traffic, began on Jan. 25.

As part of the project, a small bridge on County Road 339 over the Little Waccasassa River, located south of the new bridge, will be demolished and not replaced.

Crews have already moved the U.S. 27A and County Road 339 intersection. They have constructed a connector road that links U.S. 27A to County Road 339 about three-quarters of a mile south of the new bridge.

Anderson Columbia, the contractor, must finish paving both approaches to the new bridge and restore the portion of County Road 339 that links the bridge to the new connector road to complete the project.

Residents have been using County Road 339A to detour around the bridge and road project since January.

County Road 339 connects U.S. 27A traffic to Trenton.
