There is a mood of sorts as one walks around the remnants of the Old Williston High School. The broken pieces are a reminder of what once stood there.

Old Williston High School is being demolished for future development.
Scattered among the broken walls and demolished floors are a million memories for WHS graduates.
BluRock Development plans to build a retail development at the site. An Aldi’s grocery store and a Popeyes Louisiana Restaurant are two of the retail establishments planned for the development.
The development project has seen its shares of ups and downs as the owner dealt with the city on land use issues. The coronavirus pandemic shut down the state economy for two months.
But the demolition equipment is on site and the buildings are coming down. Thousands of cars and trucks pass by the former school site every day and watch the progress on demolition.
A couple of vehicles honked as a reporter was snapping pictures of the half demolished site as if to give a final salute to the old school. The wet clay mud, still sticky after the afternoon rain, stuck to bottom of the reporter’s shoes.
There was talk in town more than a year ago of a time capsule being buried somewhere on campus. Perhaps it will turn up, perhaps not. The demolition will proceed regardless
The demolished school will make way for a 21st Century retail center.
Demolition is the first step toward that end.
