Two Bronson Town Council members won re-election Tuesday night by razor thin margins and a former council member won back his seat on the board, according to unofficial vote totals.

Four provisional ballots are pending. Those ballots won’t change the outcome of the election. A recount won’t be necessary, according to County Judge James T. Browning.

Levy County Supervisor of Elections Tammy Jones is asked a question by canvassing board members, County Judge James T. Browning, County Commission Chairman John Meeks and Bronson Councilwoman Beatrice Roberts.

Provisional ballots are those where the eligibility of the voter is in question and the canvassing board must decide if the votes count at a special meeting on Thursday.

But there aren’t enough provisional ballots to change the outcome of the election.

Councilman Berlon Weeks defeated former mayor Franklin Schuler 133 to 124 and Councilman Jason Hunt beat Schuler’s daughter, Sherrie Schuler, 133 to 124. Former Councilman Aaron Edmondson defeated businessman James Beck 134 to 121 for a comeback win.

There were 26 absentees. A total of 259 ballots were cast.

Weeks said he thought he was going to get beat. He was ecstatic when he won.

“I just honestly thought we were going to get beat. I can’t believe it was so close. I’m glad to have a chance to represent Bronson another two years,” Weeks said. “I also want to focus on economic development and bringing job opportunities to the community. I want businesses to come here and start using the sewer and water so that our sewer rates start to decrease and our water rates start to decrease. I really think if we’re proactive about that we have a good opportunity to make that happen and take some of the burden off of the taxpayers of Bronson.”

Hunt thanked everyone for their support including his wife and family, friends and people in the community.

“It really means a lot to be elected to a second term. I really look forward to making the community better,” he said.

Edmondson said he was so tired he could hardly think of anything to say about his win. He said he didn’t campaign hard. He just reached out to friends and people in the community.

“I want to be a part of helping Bronson move forward,” Edmondson said. “That’s it.”
