Work is continuing on replacement of the County Road 339 Bridge spanning the Waccasassa River flats near Bronson.

Work crews are preparing to add the final section of the new bridge connecting CR 339 to U.S. 27A by way of a new bypass road.

The $4.04 million Florida Department of Transportation bridge and bypass road project began earlier this year.

Work crews plan to remove the current Little Waccasassa Bridge on CR 339 and thus cut off the traditional access to U.S. 27A from CR339. A cul-de-sac is to be constructed where CR 339 ends.

The Florida Department of Transportation is building a bypass road from the new bridge to U.S. 27A. The intersection at U.S. 27A is 1,700 feet west the former junction of CR 339 and U.S. 27A.

The new bridge over the Waccasassa River flats on CR 339 is considerably wider and much stronger than the bridge it replaces. Heavy trucks had been diverted away from the old CR 339 Bridge for safety reasons.

The massive support structures for the new Waccasassa River flats bridge on County Road 339 near Bronson give some indication of the strength of the future bridge.

FDOT is planning to complete the new bridge and bypass road to U.S. 27A before the end of the year, according to the FDOT website.
