Bronson Reopening Youth Sports with Precautions, Rules

The infield of Field One at James H. Cobb Park has been raked in preparation baseball practices games.

By Terry Witt – Spotlight Senior Reporter

Bronson Town Council members voted unanimously Monday to reopen their youth sports program with the understanding that children, their coaches and parents would comply with coronavirus precautions.

Bronson Youth Sports (BYL) has been given the responsibility of operating the program.

All youth sports programs around the state were closed by Gov. Ron DeSantis a couple months ago to prevent large gatherings that might result in spreading the virus.

The precautions adopted by the council are:

  1. All coaches and players must bring their own hand sanitizer to all practices and games.
  2. Everyone must have their own equipment including helmet, glove, and bat. No sharing of equipment.
  3. Every player must bring their own water bottle, and there shall be no gum, candy, sunflower seeds, etc. in the dugouts or used by spectators.
  4. No sharing in the dugouts.
  5. Only one guardian per player at each practice or game. Please try to limit bringing siblings as much as possible.
  6.  Only one coach in the dugout during practice or game.
  7. All are expected to practice appropriate social distancing, and face coverings are encouraged for coaches, spectators, etc.
  8. Players and coaches should refrain from handshakes, high fives, fist/elbow bumps, chest bumps, group cheering, etc.
  9. Dugouts should be sprayed with disinfectant after each use.
  10.  Anyone that is sick or doesn’t feel well should stay home.
  11.  Each team will keep a report of all the players, coaches, umpires or spectators names that are at the park for each practice or game.
  12.  Everyone in participation, including spectators, must sign a waiver.

These rules are for restarting practices and games. They are subject to change based on ever-changing recommendations by the CDC, Babe Ruth and/or other government recommendations or regulations. Any questions or concerns should be directed to Angela Lambe at 352-949-6992.
