Open Letter to Clerk Danny Shipp by Linda Dean Cooper
Remember your swearing-in ceremony January 8, 2013? Below is a quote taken directly from your website:
“I look forward to continuing to serve the citizens of Levy County in the capacity of Clerk of Court. I would also like to thank all of my supporters and staff for their time, effort, and support during the 2012 campaign season. Together we can continue to serve the fine citizens of Levy County and further our projects of efficiency and good customer service.” -Danny Shipp, Levy County Clerk of Court.
You said, “Together we can continue serving the fine citizens of Levy County,” sir, you are not serving us at all. Two people benefiting from your denial of the BoCC electronic and hard copy documents of historical financial data, are you and attorney Stan Griffis. You, by receiving your annual salary of $124,623 plus benefits and attorney Stan Griffis with amassed attorney fees.
Per your website “as Clerk & Comptroller to the Board of County Commissioners, the Clerk attends Board meetings, records the proceedings and maintains minutes of each meeting.” The minutes for the BoCC meetings are months behind, the February 6th minutes were approved at the last meeting. Minutes that are three months behind that is unacceptable. As the Clerk of Court, you are supposed to attend BoCC meetings, but you have not.
The May 7, 2024, 2:00 PM county budget meeting was postponed because you will not give the BoCC what is rightfully taxpayers, not yours, to move forward with the county budget. The county employees must piece together hard copies and Excel spreadsheets to get information to their financial office. Gathering information in pieces and parts is no way to conduct county business. Your bad actions and mismanagement of this entire fiasco have gone too far. Give the BoCC what it needs to start the budget process properly.
The citizens have paid in full for EVERYTHING. You are not entitled to stonewall what is rightfully the taxpayer’s property, because you have what appears to be a personal vendetta about something. It’s obvious to those of us who know the behind-the-scenes dynamics of Levy politics it’s not about the records.
Put an end to this feud today, give the BoCC our records to do our budget properly.
Very, very sincerely,
Linda Dean Cooper
