After a decade or more of citizens complaining they could not hear what county commissioners say in meetings nor were able to understand the garbled conference calling system currently in place, Commissioner Mills’ lapel microphones were installed for the October 3 meeting to rectify the problem. They worked beautifully. For the first time, I could hear every word the commissioners spoke.
County staff, acted on Commissioner Mills’ instruction at the June 6th BoCC meeting, to order and install microphones that attach to the lapel of commissioners. This was done to ensure they could be heard by anyone using the conference calling system as well as everyone in the board meeting room itself. The cost was less than $1,700, worth every penny!
Commissioners sometimes leaned back in their chairs and got so far away from their desk microphones that they could not be heard in the back of the meeting room, much less on the conference call.
The City of Williston uses YouTube so the public can see, hear, and comment during council meetings. The video is archived on YouTube for those who missed the live meeting. This allows anyone, at any time to see and hear everything in any meeting, including budget meetings, new ordinances, or updates.
With the lapel mics now in use, those of us in the back of the auditorium can hear everything as well as those calling on conference calls.
This comes at a critical time in our county with all the land use updates and ordinances in the works.
