A man who walked into Monterey Boats Monday morning and murdered a female employee was tracked to Dooley County, Georgia where he apparently died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound, Williston Police Chief Mike Rolls said Tuesday.
Jonathon Jerome Segar, 30, had reportedly been in a previous relationship with the victim. The victim was identified by WCJB TV as Ariel Griffin 30, mother of two children.
Williston police, quoting U.S Marshals and the Dooley County Sheriff’s Office said Segar’s vehicle was spotted by a sheriff’s deputy. A vehicle pursuit was started. Segar fired shots at deputies during the chase.
“The suspect crashed. A single gunshot was heard from the vehicle. After ensuring the scene was clear to approach the vehicle, the suspect was found deceased inside the vehicle,” Williston police said.
Rolls had few details about the murder or what type of gun was used. Monterey is a boat manufacturing plant. Police responded to the shooting at 5:17 a.m.
“We’re thinking it was an AK 47. We haven’t got the gun back yet,” Rolls said.
Rolls added that U.S. Marshals aided in the investigation of the murder in Williston and also assisted city police in the manhunt that led to the suspect dying in Georgia.
