Williston High School’s State Champion Class 1A boys’ basketball team was honored by Levy County Commissioners at a recent board meeting.
The team was 25-7 for the season, 6-0 in district play, and 9-0 in home games where they were clearly unbeatable in front of a hometown crowd.
Coach Jim Irvin spoke of the players’ willingness to commit to unselfish team play, a trait he said carried them through the season and the playoffs.
He conceded the team is loaded with athletic talent, which improved its chances, but he said the boys also mastered the mental part of the game, sticking together like a family to beat all comers in the state playoffs.
The team was the first in school history to win a state basketball championship.
Congratulations to the state-champion Williston Red Devils boys’ basketball team.
