Williston City Clerk Latricia Wright was honored recently at a Williston City Council meeting for being designated as a Municipal Certified Clerk through a rigorous program of study provided by the Florida Association of City Clerks (FACC).
Presentation of a certificate and a pin was made by Dawn Wright, city clerk for Eagle Lake, FL, and Central West District Director for the FACC at the April 4 council meeting.
“Latricia is now part of an elite group of professionals within local government, a route she could not have become part of without your commitment to her efforts,” Wright said to the council.
The council set aside funds and gave Wright time off from her regular duties to attend classes and become one of 218 city clerks out of 546 statewide to earn the municipal certified clerk designation.
“To achieve the municipal certified clerk designation, Latricia has gone through and completed the International Institute of Municipal Clerks approved Municipal Clerks Institute program conducted by the John Scott Dailey Florida Institute of Government through Florida State University in Tallahassee,” Wright said.
This program provides 110 hours of student-instructor contact hours on management and leadership skills, social interpersonal concerns, and technical training needed to deal with changes taking place in government today, Wright added.
The programs aid municipal clerks in improving job performance and recognizes the professionalism of the municipal clerk’s office.
“Completion of the recognized career academy along with experience in local government and participation in conferences, meetings, and educational seminars are required to earn this prestigious certified municipal clerks’ recognition,” Wright said.
Latricia Wright began her career in Williston city government 12 years ago. She was hired as a customer service representative. She later became the administrative assistant in the planning and zoning department. After two years of planning and zoning, she became executive assistant to the city clerk and city manager, a position she held for one year before being hired as city clerk.
