Williston Mayor Charles Goodman and the City Council honored Student of the Month Oaklee-Rae Parks at the most recent board meeting.
Oaklee-Rae, a kindergartner at Joyce Bullock Elementary School and daughter of Kayla Parks, was nominated by Mrs. Grimes who wrote these comments about Oaklee-Rae.
Oaklee-Rae has to be just about the sweetest, most charming young lady I have ever had the pleasure of meeting and teaching. Her smile is like a ray of sunshine, ready to brighten the day of anyone she comes in contact with and her laugh is contagious. Oaklee-Rae is a model student and leads by example. She puts forth 100 percent in all she does and encourages her peers to do the same. While Oaklee-Rae is excelling academically, that is not the main reason she has been nominated as the Mayor’s Student of the Month. It’s for her genuine kindness, compassion, and thoughtfulness. Oaklee-Rae is a friend to everyone, whether she has known you her whole life or just met you five minutes ago. She welcomes everyone with open arms. She is quick to help a friend for the sheer reason that they are in need of help. There is never an ulterior motive in her actions. If a student has lost their pencil Oaklee-Rae gives them hers with no hesitation. If a student gets sand all over their face while on the playground, she is there doing her best to clean them off before they can even make it to their teacher for help. She also has the best outlook on everything! Whenever she makes a mistake, she smiles, says, “Oh, biscuits!!” in her sweet little voice, fixes the mistake, and then moves on. I consider myself to be so very blessed to have the privilege of teaching Oaklee-Rae this year. If attitude is the determinant of how far one will go in life, then there is no limit to how far Miss Oaklee-Rae Cynthia Parks will go!
