Williston’s next municipal election has been set for April 4, 2023, with three seats on the ballot.
Seat A, held by Elihu Ross, Seat B held by Marguerite Robinson, and Seat C held by Michael Cox, are on the ballot.
Qualifying for the election is Monday, Jan. 23 at noon through Friday, Jan. 27 at noon. Candidates are required to pay a $48 election assessment fee (1 percent of salary) plus a $5 qualifying fee for a total of $53.
The election date was moved from March to April at the request of Supervisor of Elections Tammy Jones. March was the traditional date for city elections in Williston.
Jones said her office can better handle all the municipal elections on the same day rather than have them scattered around the year.
Williston’s former election date in March was reportedly sometimes in conflict with the presidential primary. The only reason for moving the date was to honor the request of the elections supervisor.
Levy County cities that have changed to the April 4 general election date are Bronson, Cedar Key, Chiefland, Inglis, Otter Creek, Williston, and Yankeetown. Fanning Springs is the only city that hasn’t changed to an April 4 general election date. Their city’s election won’t be until 2024.
Cedar Key Water & Sewer District has also changed to an April 4 election date.
Runoff elections if needed:
Inglis April 18, 2023
Cedar Key April 25, 2023
Chiefland April 25, 2023
Williston May 2, 2023
