Republicans Make Clean Sweep in Levy County, Statewide Races

            Levy County election results Tuesday mirrored the outcomes of statewide voting with Republicans making a clean sweep often by substantial margins.

            There were no county races on the ballot, but Levy County voters selected two Republicans to represent them in the Florida Legislature.

            Republican State Sen. Keith Perry defeated Democrat Rodney Long 135,469 to 71,189. Perry got 13,794 votes to Long’s 3,906 in Levy County.

            Republican State Rep. Chuck Clemons defeated Democrat Brandon Peters 41,633 to 32,573. Clemons received 13,610 votes to Peters 4,140 in Levy County.

            Long and Peters were endorsed by retiring County Commissioner Lilly Rooks who was toasted during her final commission meeting Tuesday by colleagues who had worked with her in public office.

            In the 8th Judicial Circuit Group 12 race, Sean Brewer, a career state prosecutor defeated AuBroncee Martin 84,403 to 42,586. In Levy County, Brewer got 13,096 and Martin 2,959.

            There were three constitutional amendments on the ballot. All three were approved in statewide voting..

            Amendment 1 allows the Florida Legislature to pass laws exempting the value of improvements made for flood resistance when calculating a home’s value for property tax purposes. The amendment passed 4,009,550 to 2,992,513 in statewide voting. It passed in Levy County 9,304 to 7,326.

            Amendment 2 abolished the Florida Constitutional Revision Commission. The amendment passed 3,739,119 to 3,201,507 in statewide voting.  In Levy County, it passed 9,106 to 7,401.

            Amendment 3 gives teachers, law enforcement officers, correctional officers, firefighters, emergency medical responders, military members, and child welfare service workers a property tax exemption. The amendment passed 4,208,365 in statewide voting. In Levy County, the amendment passed 9,310 to 7,667.

            Republican Gov. Ron DeSantis and Lt. Gov. Jeanette Nunez defeated Democrat Charlie Crist and Lt. Gov. candidate Karla Hernandez-Mats 4,607,597 to 3,100,267. DeSantis got 78.43 percent of the votes in Florida, a landslide.

            Republican Congresswoman Kat Cammack, District 3, defeated Democrat Danielle Hawk 177,999 to 103,254. In Levy County Cammack got 13,642 to 3,933 for Hawk.

            Republican U.S. Sen. Marco Rubio defeated Democrat Val Demings 4,468,468 to 3,195,513 in statewide voting. In Levy County Rubio got 13,684 to Demings 3,943.

            Republican Attorney General Ashley Moody defeated Democrat Aramis Ayala 4,644,733 to 3,020,267 in statewide voting. In Levy County, Moody got 14,073 votes to 3,733 for Aramis.

            Republican Wilton Simpson was elected Commissioner of Agriculture with 4,504,323 votes compared to 3,090,024 for Democrat Naomi Ester Blemur in statewide voting. In Levy County, Simpson beat Blemur 13,858 to 3,880.

            Republican Jimmy Patronis was elected Florida’s Chief Financial Officer with 4,504,323 votes compared to Democrat Adam Hattersley’s 3,090,024 in statewide voting. In Levy County, Patronis won 13,732 to 3,924 over Hattersley.

The Supervisor of Elections office next door to the Levy County Courthouse was a busy place on Election Day. The office will be open on Thursday. The Canvassing Board has postponed its final meeting to certify the election until Friday morning due to the approaching storm. It will meet in the back room of the elections office.
