County Candidates Win Big in Tuesday Primary

            Levy Countians elected two county commissioners, a property appraiser, and a school board member by wide margins in Tuesday’s election.

            The results are unofficial until the canvassing board meets on Thursday.

            Jason Whistler was elected property appraiser in a race triggered by the passing of Property Appraiser Osborne Barker last year. Whistler got 4,285 votes to 2,639 for James Allen and 2,181 for David Rogers.

            Whistler will serve the remaining two years of Barker’s term and will run again in 2024.

            Desiree Jerrells Mills won the District 3 Levy County Commission race with 5,521 votes. Her opponent Cliff Harrell got 3,585 votes. She replaces the late Mike Joyner who passed away in office. Mills will serve the remaining two years of Joyner’s term and will run again in 2024.

            Tim Hodge won the Levy County Commission race for District 4, taking 4,229 votes, to 2706 for Billy Hinote, 1,111 for Laura Mott, and 1,001 for Charlotte Watson Calvillo.

            In the District 5 school board race, Devin Whitehurst won in a landslide over Larry E. Jones 6,701 to 2,415. Whitehurst replaces retiring School Board member Brad Etheridge.

            In the race for Congress, District 3, incumbent Republican Kat Cammack easily outdistanced her rivals, taking 5,572 votes, to 784 for Justin Waters.

            In District 3 congressional primary race for Democrats, Danielle Hawk won in Levy County with 1,351 votes to 802 for Tom Wells.

            In the governor’s race for the Democrats in Levy County, former governor Charlie Crist took 1,187 votes to 887 for Nicole “Nikki” Fried, 137 for Robert L. Willis, and 75 for Candance Daniel.

            Gov. Ron DeSantis is the unchallenged for the Republicans and wasn’t on the primary ballot. He will face the winner of the statewide Democratic primary, plus candidates from other parties in November.

            Florida Attorney General Ashley Moody is unchallenged in the Republican ranks and wasn’t on the primary ballot. Three Democratic Party challengers for the seat were on the Levy County primary ballot. Jim Lewis got 842 votes, Aramis Ayala 729 and Daniel Uhlfelder 576.

            In the race for Florida Agriculture Commissioner, Republican Wilton Simpson outpolled his GOP challenger James W. Shaw, 4,466 to 1896 in Levy County.

            Three Democrats were on the ballot for Florida Agriculture Commissioner. Naomi Esther Blemur got 872 votes, Ryan Morales 763, and J.R. Gaillot 484 in Levy County.

            In the State Representative District 22 primary for Republicans, Chuck Clemons outpolled Ty Appiah, 4,293 to 2,169 in Levy County.

            In the State Representative District 22 primary for Democrats, Brandon Peters took 1,644 votes to 563 for Olysha Magruder in Levy County.

            In the 8th Judicial Circuit judges race for Group 12, Sean Brewer got 4,228 votes to 2061 for Dan Weisman, 1,531 for Nathan Skop, and 1,089 for Aubronce Martin.

            For United States Senator, Democrats, Val Demings got 1,431 votes, Brian Rush 403, William Sanchez 270, and Ricardo De La Puente 99 in Levy County voting.

Canvassing Board members to prepare to confirm unofficial vote totals. Tax Collector Michele Langford, Supervisor of Elections Tammy Jones, and Levy County Commission Chairman Rock Meeks prepare to examine vote totals from the various precincts.
