By Terry Witt – Spotlight Senior Reporter

Two girls from the Williston area were recognized Tuesday by Levy County Commissioners for winning the titles of World and Reserve World Champion in the 2022 Cinch Ranch Sorting World Championship held in Ft. Worth, Texas.

Avery Emrick was recognized for winning the 2022 Youth World champion and Reserve World Champion and being named the Reserve World Champion in the High Point Division at the ranch sorting competition.

Lillian Hansen-Fortner was recognized for winning the title of Youth Reserve Champion and earning 7th place in the Youth High Point Division at the ranch sorting competition.

Ranch sorting is a team competition in which horse riders sort out as many cows as possible from a herd of 10 in 60 seconds in the order called by a judge. The animals are numbered.

The two girls were competing against riders from all 50 states, Spain, Australia, Mexico, and France.

Commissioner Matt Brooks made the presentation with his three fellow board members taking part.

Ranch sorting champions Avery Emrick and Lillian Hampton-Fortner are recognized by County Commissioners John Meeks, Lilly Rooks, Matt Brooks, and Chairman Rock Meeks at Tuesday’s board meeting.
