Chiefland Police Chief Scott Anderson is looking for a man or possibly a woman dressed in black who robbed two women walking home from work Sunday night and burglarized the Pure Station.
“We got a man dressed in a black mask, gloves, the whole nine yards robbing people here in Chiefland,” Anderson told city commissioners Monday. “He hit two clerks walking from the Manatee Springs Motel, got them for $1,300, stole their wallets, purses, IDs.”
Anderson said his daughter saw the suspect near a funeral home. He was caught on video burglarizing the Pure Station. Another video shows him walking behind Big John’s Plumbing in south Chiefland.
“He was walking to the Pure Station. He had a mask, gloves, and a hoodie. He was ready to go,” Anderson said. “This guy knows what he is doing. He’s a danger to our community. Trust me, I’m trying to find out who he is.”
Mayor Chris Jones said it sounded to him like the man was local.
“I don’t think it’s one of our locals,” Anderson responded. “I think it’s someone who has moved here recently.”
Anderson said he calls him the man in black, but he said he doesn’t actually know if the person is a man or a woman.
He just knows the thief is dangerous.
“Just be careful people,” Anderson said.
