Williston will celebrate the Fourth of July in the usual manner this year with a parade, fireworks, and a festival on July 3rd.
The holiday was cancelled last year due to concerns about the potential spread of COVID-19.
The decision to hold the full festival on July 3rd was made Tuesday night by the city council after Councilman Michael Cox brought it up for discussion.
Cox indicated he was ready to have the full festival.
“We have plenty of people who go to the high school and watch from there. They go to the elementary school and watch. They go out by the airport and watch. All we do is encourage them to social distance,” Cox said.
Council members were unanimous in their support for holding the celebration on the first Saturday in July.
“I’m in favor of having it,” said Councilwoman Debra Jones.
“I am too,” said Councilwoman Marguerite Robinson.
“I’m ready to say let’s get back to normal and do what we always do,” said Council President Justin Head.
“The residents are in favor of it,” said Mayor Jerry Robinson.
City Clerk Latricia Wright needed to know right away if the full festival was a go. She said she needed to begin contacting vendors. Some have already contacted her.
Wright was given the green light to begin lining up vendors.
The festival is a go.
