A decorated police officer has been hired as a patrolman for the Williston Police Department.
Scott “Owen” Confessore was shot point-blank in the chest with a 12 gauge shotgun when he was ambushed by a fugitive from the law he was tracking. His body armor saved him. He shot the man who ambushed him.
His awards include the Purple Heart Medal, Medal of Valor, Medal of Commendation, two Unit Citation Medals, Stop Stick Utilization Medal, 19 Eagle Eye Awards.
He has received numerous certificates of appreciation, letters of commendation and letters of appreciation.
Confessore worked for the Marion County Sheriff’s Office as a patrol deputy from 2003 to 2005, as a detective 2nd grade in the Major Crimes Unit from 2005 to 2009, as a Drug Agent – Multi-Agency Drug Enforcement Task Force from 2009 to 2010, and as a corporal in patrol from 2010 to 2014.
He also worked for Lowell Correctional Institution from April 2015 to 2020. He started as a correctional officer, moved to correctional officer sergeant, correctional officer lieutenant, and final correctional officer captain this year, according to his resume.
Confessore worked as a reserve officer for the Williston Police Department from 2015 to 2020. He also worked at the College of Central Florida as a general topics instructor and firearms instructor from 2002 to 2014.
Confessore holds an Associate Degree in Criminal Justice from Santa Fe Community College.
His skills include firearms instructor, chemical munitions instructor, driving instructor, field training officer, breath test operator, and armorer for the Sig Saur pistol Colt 1911, Colt M16, and Remington 870.
