Dave Bibby isn’t a household name in a lot of areas of Levy County, but the pilots who fly into Williston Municipal Airport are familiar with Bibby and his business.
Bibby and his wife Carol are owners of the Pyper Kub Café & Restaurant at the airport and their eatery attracts plenty of pilots.
In the past 9 years and 7 months since the Pyper Kub Café and Restaurant opened, Bibby has been keeping track of customers who are pilots by writing the letter “p” on the check stub.
He has served 21,700 pilots since restaurant’s opening. The restaurant is located outside the main airport gate.
Bibby made the announcement at the July 2 City Council meeting.
“We’re getting more pilots because groups of 10 to 15 are coming in,” he said.
Bibby started working at the airport in 1999 when there wasn’t much going on at the facility.
Now, Bibby says he sees three or four jets fly into the airport every day.
The airport has a service cart that carries pilots to a fixed Base Operator building and back to the airport.
A golf cart carries pilots to and from the restaurant. A taxi can carry pilots and passengers into town.
“You folks can be proud of your airport,” he said.
The airport has two runways, the largest being 6,669 feet. The other is 5,000 feet long, according to the website.
A pilot’s lounge, conference room and overnight hangar service are available to pilots. The airport’s reasonably priced jet fuel attracts aircraft.
And the Pyper Kub Café and Restaurant apparently attracts pilots, thousands of them.
