For those who think the 2020 election is too far away to get excited about, take a look at all the smiling faces of county elected officials you will see in news between now and then.
Photo opportunities won’t be missed.
It so happens that elective offices at the courthouse level in Levy County pay more than just about any other profession in the county. You can make good money holding county public office.
And next year is the big four year election.
The clerk of court and comptroller, property appraiser, sheriff, supervisor of elections, tax collector, county commissioners district 1,3 and 5, superintendent of schools, school board districts 2 and 4 and soil and water conservation districts 2 and 4 will be on the ballot.
Clerk of Circuit Court Danny Shipp earns $109,545, Property Appraiser Osborne “Oz” Barker earns $109,545, Supervisor of Elections Tammy Jones earns $109,545, Tax Collector Linda Fugate earns $109,545, School Superintendent Jeff Edison earns $109,545, Sheriff Bobby McCallum earns $118,942, each county commissioner earns $37,258 and each school board member earns $28,993.
District 1 County Commissioner John Meeks, District 3 County Commissioner Mike Joyner and District 5 Commissioner Matt Brooks hold seats that will be on the ballot in 2020.
District 2 School Board member Chris Cowart and District 4 School Board member Paige Brooks hold seats that will be on the ballot in 2020.
Along with those local offices, State Senator Rob Bradley from District 5 and Florida State Representative Charlie Stone District 22 are being term limited out of office. Those offices will be up for grabs.
The office of Public Defender Stacy A. Scott and the office of State Attorney Bill Cervone of the 8th Judicial Circuit will be on the ballot in 2020.
Congressman Neal Dunn of District 2 will be on the ballot in 2020.
