Three Levy County Elementary Schools were honored recently with Golden School Awards for their outstanding volunteer programs.
Golden School Awards were presented to Joyce Bullock Elementary School for having 2,632 volunteer hours, Chiefland Elementary School for more than 1,600 volunteer hours and to Yankeetown School for 1,014 volunteer hours.
The Florida Department of Education recognizes Golden Schools who meet three criteria.
They must have a minimum of 80 percent of school staff participating in training related to school volunteerism. They must designate a school volunteer coordinator for recruitment, placement, training, and supervision of school volunteers and the total number of hours of volunteer service must equal twice the number of students enrolled in the school. Any school volunteer activity can be counted such as fundraising.
