School Board Candidates, County Judge, Apparently Shoe-Ins as Qualifying Deadline Nears

The final day of qualifying for countywide elective offices in Levy County is Friday at noon.

Assuming no one else throws their hat into the ring for the three school board seats, and the county judge’s post, the four men who have already qualified for those posts will win without opposition.

School Board member Cameron Asbell has qualified for District 1, School Board member Brad Etheridge has qualified for District 3 and Gary Bennett, a newcomer, has qualified to replace Rick Turner in District 5.

Turner chose not to seek re-election. He has served the school district as a teacher, principal and school board member for decades.

County Judge James T. Browning will win re-election without opposition unless someone qualifies to run by noon Friday.

The two county commission races are contested.

Commissioner Rock Meeks in District 2 and his opponent, Terance Reed have both qualified.

Commissioner Lilly Rooks in District 4 and her opponent, Ryan Bell, have both qualified.

Browning, with a recent raise given to county judges and certain other elected officials statewide, earns $151,822 annually.

Each Levy County Commissioner earns $36,850 annually and each Levy County School Board member earns $28,752 annually.
