Shadow, the new Williston Police Department K-9, was introduced to the Williston City Council and visitors in the audience Tuesday.
Mayor Jerry Robinson thanked the sponsors who made the acquisition of the 1-year-old German Shepherd from Hungary possible on May 14, 2017.
Community Sponsors Were:
• Shadow Trailers and Armstrong Homes: Purchase of shadow.
• Gainesville Police Department: Donation of surplus K-9 cage.
• Marion County Sheriff’s Office along with K-9 Specialist Carlos Ramirez: Helped with selection process along with installing a patrol car with the K-9 cage.
• K9s of Jacksonville: K-9 equipment
• Reliable Drywall, Nick Ergle: K-9 ballistic vest
• Sparr Building and Farm Supply: kennel
• Cargill Corporation parent company Nutrena: feed
• Williston Animal Clinic, Dr. Wade Bullock: veterinary services
• Wal-Mart 1297 in Chiefland: Community Neighbor Grant
Williston Police Chief Dennis Strow said the dog will be trained at no charge by the Marion County Sheriff’s Office. With all the donations by the community, Strow said the police department acquired the dog at no charge to taxpayers.
