Lee Williams, who worked for years in the Levy County Mosquito Control Department and later became procurement director for the county, has retired and was recognized by Levy County Commissioners Tuesday.
Williams worked for 17 years as the store manager at Winn Dixie in Chiefland before becoming a county employee.
Commissioner Rock Meeks, a former county employee who worked for Williams for eight years saluted his former boss.
“It was without a doubt a privilege,” Meeks said.
He said Williams wasn’t always calm and collected, however.
Meeks smiled as he remembered one time when Williams became furious with him and several coworkers. They were digging a ditch, but not the way Williams wanted it done.
Meeks said he and his coworkers started singing. Williams finally walked off and drove away.
Meeks said Williams was without a doubt a hard worker. He said Williams spent many hours spraying mosquitoes for the community at 2 a.m.
Commissioner Lilly Rooks commended Williams for his years of service to the people of Levy County.
“It’s been many years. You will be missed,” she said.
Commissioner Mike Joyner paid Williams the highest tribute.
“Your professionalism and dedication to the county was unbelievable,” Joyner said.
