The Levy County Commission was left holding the bag recently when the company that hosts its website closed its doors on short notice.
“Our website will be there. I just can’t manage the information,” said Procurement Coordinator Alicia Tretheway at the board’s July 22 meeting.
JSS Enterprises Inc. closed its doors effective June 16.
Commissioners voted to waive their formal bid process to deal with the situation as an emergency. They need their website up and running as soon as possible.
Tretheway will return to the board on June 5 with a recommendation for a new website host. She said she would likely recommend a company called Revize Software System to host the county website.
Revize specializes in serving government clients nationwide. A company publication said it has built award-winning government websites and content management systems around the country.
“Revize has been a pioneer in implementing the latest trends in design by using “Responsive Web Design (RWD). This technology ensures that site visitors have an optimal viewing experience – easy reading and navigation with a minimum of resizing, panning and scrolling – across a wide range of devices from mobile phones to desktop monitors,” the company’s promotion brochure states.
The company provides clients with unlimited data storage service space for each website it builds.
Tretheway said Revize is offering to design the county website for $7,820. The company would charge the county commission $2,400 annually for its services, or $200 per month. That is $80 more than it pays now.
The loss of JSS Enterprises Inc. didn’t affect the name of the county’s website. The county continues to own the domain name, but uploading and managing information without a website host is a problem.
