Beverly McCallum Announces Run for State Attorney Eighth Judicial Circuit

The race to determine who serves as the next State Attorney of the Eighth Judicial Circuit won’t occur until 2020, but Beverly McCallum, who grew up in Levy County, has begun her campaign.

McCallum introduced herself to the Levy County Commission at the board’s most recent meeting on July 22.

McCallum was born and lives in Gainesville, where she attended Stephen Foster Elementary School. She received her Bachelor of Arts in Russian and Religion from Florida State University summa cum laude.

In 2002, she received a Juris Doctor from the University of Florida Levin College of Law with high honors. Prior to law school, she was an assistant manager for Bank of America in Los Angeles, Calif., and a Revenue Specialist for the Florida Department of Revenue, Child Support Enforcement, Judicial Enforcement Unit.

After law school, she served as an intern and Assistant State Attorney for the State Attorney’s Office, Eighth Judicial Circuit in Gainesville prosecuting domestic violence, general misdemeanor, and DUI cases.

In 2005, McCallum became a criminal division assistant United States Attorney for the United States Department of Justice, United States Attorney’s Office, District of Arizona. From late 2007 until late May 2014, McCallum served as an Assistant United States Attorney for the United States Attorney’s Office, Districts of Guam and the Northern Mariana Islands.

From early 2012 until late May 2014, McCallum was cross-designated as an Assistant State Attorney for the State Attorney’s Office, Fifth Judicial Circuit in Ocala, pursuant to an Intergovernmental Personnel Act detail. McCallum prosecuted specially assigned RICO, continuing criminal enterprise, drug, sexual battery, white-collar and public interest matters.

McCallum founded and has remained Managing Member of Beverly R. McCallum Law Firm PLLC since late May 2014. Her practice emphasis has been on federal criminal and civil rights law.

She is an active candidate for State Attorney of the 8th Judicial Circuit: Alachua, Baker, Bradford, Gilchrist, Levy, and Union Counties.

McCallum is the daughter of Levy County Sheriff Bobby McCallum.
