Chiefland won’t have a city election in April.
All three incumbent commissioners qualified without opposition this week. The final day to qualify was Thursday.
Mayor Chris Jones in Group 1, Commissioner Rollin Hudson in Group 2, and Commissioner Norman Weaver didn’t have an opponent and were automatically re-elected to office.
“This will be the first time since 2015 that we won’t have a city election,” said City Manager Laura Cain.
Elections in the past seven years have had contested races, which is unusual, but not this year.
It just so happens that this is also the first year the city election was to be held on the first week in April.
All the cities in Levy County except for Fanning Springs have changed to an April election date at the request of County Supervisor of Elections Tammy Jones.
