            Levy County Commissioner Matt Brooks was selected by the commission to serve as chairman for 2023.

            First-term Commissioner Desiree Mills was selected to serve as the vice chairwoman of the board.

            Commissioner John Meeks, dressed in bright Christmas attire, complete with blinking lights, made the nominations.

            Commissioner Rock Meeks is the outgoing chairman. He presided over Tuesday’s board meeting, his final as chairman.

            It is a rare honor for a first-term commissioner to be selected as vice chair. Commissioner John Meeks is the outgoing vice chairman.

            Meeks is the senior member of the board.

            Brooks has served as chairman once before.

            The chairman presides over county commission meetings, signs checks to pay the county’s bills, works closely with the county coordinator and takes on a variety of other assignments as a commissioner.
