            Monterey Boats in Williston is planning to add 150 positions to its manufacturing plant at the Williston Municipal Airport.

            News of the expansion was announced at the Williston City Council meeting Tuesday when council members approved an extension of the company’s current lease arrangement.

            The city owns the land on which Monterey operates. The company leases airport property from the city but owns its buildings.

            City Council President Debra Jones said the company currently employs 525 people. The 150 positions are an increase in the existing workforce.

                Budget Glitch        

            In other business, the council will meet in a public hearing Friday to re-do what was already done in September when the final city budget was approved.

            The state notified the city that it hadn’t received a certified copy of a newspaper advertisement the city was required to provide as part of its budget documents.

            Steven Bloom, the city’s financial analyst said he feels the city actually sent the newspaper ad to the state, but he said state officials said they never received it. Bloom said he was on the phone to City Clerk Latricia Wright and one other employee when they were sending the advertisement to the state via email.    He said rather than file an appeal, it’s just easier to hold a brief public hearing Friday identical to the second hearing in September and approve the budget again.

            Santa Paying Visit

            Finally, Santa Claus is planning the take a ride through the entire city on Dec. 21 riding in a sleigh atop a large trailer.

            Santa will launch his citywide visit at 5 p.m. Route maps will be available on the Williston Police and Fire Department’s Facebook page a week prior to Santa’s ride with updates throughout his visit.

            Police Chief Dennis Strow said he and Fire Chief Lamar Stegall will accompany Santa.
