For Immediate Release July 10, 2024
My fellow citizens,
In the past 24 hours, I’ve received numerous inquiries regarding recent reports about our current Property Appraiser, and I feel it’s important to address these concerns publicly. As your candidate for Levy County Property Appraiser, I am dedicated to restoring fairness and integrity to our property assessment system and the appraiser’s office.
If the reports about industrial properties being significantly undervalued are accurate, which appears to be the case, this situation is wholly unacceptable. I advocate for a thorough forensic audit by the state on these parcels, as well as any other properties under question. It’s crucial to rectify these issues promptly and ensure there was no malicious intent behind these discrepancies.
Furthermore, I’ve also become aware of instances where agricultural properties are being overvalued, and this too is a matter of concern.
In cases where properties have been overvalued by the county appraiser, resulting in excessive property taxes, affected property owners are typically entitled to refunds or credits. The responsibility for reimbursing overpaid taxes generally falls on the county or local government where the property is situated. They must correct these errors and refund the excess amounts to those affected.
If elected as Levy County Property Appraiser I pledge to prioritize transparency, fairness, and accuracy in property assessments. I commit to conducting a comprehensive review of past assessments in collaboration with the Department of Revenue, correcting any disparities, and implementing safeguards to prevent future occurrences. Together, we can safeguard our community’s interests and ensure that our tax dollars are utilized efficiently to support essential services and infrastructure such as roads, bridges and schools. I am eager to earn your trust and humbly serve you as your property appraiser.
Respectfully,
Dale R. Hart
